If I may, are there any design guidelines for warpdrive-equipped ships? Power needed? Ship geometry? The mass of a drive? I've read the FTL Paradigm document, but it only mentions safe speeds and the Alcubierre Equation, which I can't make heads or tails of.
Sorry for the late reply. Generally try to stay out of the details for warp stuff b/c most stories aren't based on those kinds of details, but I think I can answer the essence of your questions. Warpdrives require a lot of power, which is usually taken care of by either a fission or fusion reactor. Hyperspace travel does not have the same power requirements, so some of the smaller ships would spend the majority of their transit time leaving gravity wells and then have very brief FTL transit times, or use some kind of warp-based ferry system or a relatively short-range wormhole-based gate system. As a general rule the mass of the drive wouldn't have to be too big depending on ship size b/c the capabilities of the drive system would increase exponentially as size increased, as opposed to increasing in a linear fashion, but as I'm sure you remember from the document, there is a size limit to the warp bubble. Ship geometry is not an issue.
So, they're black boxes? I can work with that. I'm mostly asking because my race is somewhat on the primitive side.

While I've got you here, how much ownership do I have over what I create in the OPaaT universe? For example, if I want to write a novel or make a game based on my race, would I be able to sell that?
The short answer is yes and yes. The FTL criteria is based on the Fermi Paradox (high density advanced life and advanced civilizations yet lots of unexplored/undeveloped areas). You retain intellectual property rights on races that you develop, but you can't take someone else's race and just run with it w/o permission.
thank you for the invitation! XD this group seems really interesting and since i'm working on a scifi novel, it would really help. :)
Thank you for your kind words and sorry for the late reply. dA can be a little screwy when it comes to notifications for group comments. Which sub-genre is your scifi novel?
That's ok! I face the same problems too, especially when it comes to tagging. XD

It's in the apocalyptic sub-genre and involves politics, war and aliens. If you're interested, do take a look at it! :D I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
